AETECH (Representative: Park Tae-hyung) has been selected as the final winner of the 'WIPO Global Awards 2024' hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), becoming the first South Korean company to do so.
The WIPO Global Awards is a global award hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN), that honors companies that have strategically utilized intellectual property and contributed to society.
This year, 667 companies from 107 countries around the world applied, and the top 25 finalist companies were announced in June. On July 12, at the award ceremony held in Geneva, Switzerland, AETECH was announced as one of the final 8 winning companies.
AETECH is a startup that has developed an AI robot for waste sorting and has become the first in Korea to commercialize an automation solution for private and public recycling sorting facilities.
The company has recorded remarkable growth, with a 2,200% increase in annual sales and successful Series A investment.
The patent law firm Elps has contributed to the development of AETECH's overseas IP strategy.
Based on AETECH's PCT applications, Elps has strategically selected the countries for global market entry, secured strong patents to protect critical technologies, and designed around competitors' patents to mitigate the risk of patent infringement upon product launch, all in an effort to support AETECH's global market expansion.
The WIPO Global Awards 2024 win was made possible thanks to AETECH's innovative technology and the strategic IP management support provided by the patent law firm Elps. AETECH is expected to continue to accelerate its entry into the global waste resource market and the commercialization of its IP assets, establishing itself as a leading player in Waste Management.
Sang-yeol Lee, the managing partner of the patent law firm Elps, commented on the award, saying, "AETECH's win of the 'WIPO Global Awards 2024' is a proud achievement that once again confirms the global competitiveness of South Korea's IP strategy," and added, "We will continue to provide multifaceted support, including IP strategy development and advisory, to ensure AETECH's sustainable growth and global market expansion."
Meanwhile, the WIPO Global Awards 2024 winning companies will receive mentoring support, including funding opportunities, partnership opportunities, and promotional support, for 6-12 weeks to help them achieve their business goals through IP strategies.
The award aims to encourage inventors, creators, and entrepreneurs who solve regional and global problems, generate income, and create jobs through the commercialization of IP assets, thereby contributing to the development of local communities and nations.
